Skyline Drive for Fall Colors Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park is an amazing place to see the fall colors of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Do You Know Of Additional Trail Of Tears Routes? The National Parks Service is looking for information which may lead to the establishment of additional routes to this part of the National Trails System. Follow this LINK for the complete story.  National Parks Traveler Gets A New Look! One of my favorite sites for complete information about our National Parks is the National Parks Traveler. Kurt Repanshek does a great job covering all that there is National Parks.  Have You Been To Channel Islands National Park? This is a great “out of the way” park. You have to go by boat or plane to get there, but it’s well worth the trip. Follow this LINK for more info about this park of ocean islands.  Are You a WebRanger? This is the National Park Service's site for kids of all ages. If you love our National Parks, Monuments and Historic Sites, this site is for you. If you are new to our National Parks, this site will help you experience how wonderful they can be!  National Park Service Web Rangers - Patriot Spy Game Become a WebRanger and sneak past enemy soldiers to deliver a letter to Paul Revere.  Looking for a Back to School Gift? Cub Club™ ‘Ventures™ If you’ve been on a ‘Venture in the past few months, send me a picture and a paragraph about where you’ve been and all the great things you did. Then, I’ll share them with all the other CubClub™ members in my next newsletter!  Here’s a ‘Venture™Note from one of my recent trips. Fort Laramie National Historic Site  I’ve been to some really cool forts in my travels, but, I’ve never been to anything like Fort Laramie. First of all, it’s one of those wonderful “Off The Beaten Trail” National Park Sites. It seems like we drove forever before we got there. In fact, it’s in Wyoming and the fort is over an hour away from any other National Park site. We drove up to the fort from Rocky Mountain National Park and it took us a lot of hours to get there. But once we did, we learned about the fort and why it was there and being in the middle of nowhere made complete sense. Remember reading in my book, Teddy’s Travels™, about all the people on ‘Ventures that left from St. Louis near the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial? Well, Fort Laramie was a major stopping point for many of those westward trails that left from the St. Louis area. In fact, LOTS of Trails went through this region. Some of them include: the Pony Express National Historic Trail, the California National Historic Trail, the Mormon Pioneer National Historic Trail and the Oregon National Historic Trail. What an exciting place this must have been during the days of Westward Expansion!  Isn’t this a great picture? While we were there, we got to see a real Civil War demonstration of what was involved in shooting off a cannon. It was really LOUD when it finally blasted. But it was such fun! Of course, when they shot cannons in the fort’s working days, it was to protect the fort from enemies and raiders. I’m so glad that those days are past. Now, we get to enjoy the beautiful landscape and learn about the ‘Ventures™ of travelers that settled the Wild West.   Now, don’t forget, I need your pictures and stories about your own ‘Ventures. Here’s a link with information on National Parks that are becoming wheel-chair accessible. One day, we won’t need a list like this because all the parks will be accessible!  A New Website Simplifies Planning Wouldn’t it be nice if you could find all your camping and travel planning needs in one place? Well, look no further. There is a new website called recreation.gov that can lead you to all your favorite parks and recreation areas, regardless of federal agency jurisdiction.  Have You Seen The New Stamps? The USPS has a new sheet of stamps with images of scenery and wildlife from Rock Mountain National Park. Take a look over the tundra in these beautiful illustrations.  How Many NP Lodges Have You Visited? Here’s a list of the top ten National Park Lodges. they are in some of the most beautiful National parks in the country.
