December 15, 16, 18, 19, 21, 22, 24, 26 - 2006
If you want to do something SPECTACULAR, then this is it. I’ve never been to the Bracebridge Dinner, but it is definitely on my list of ‘Ventures of a Lifetime! It’s an elegant and artistic four-hour pageant of classic carols, Renaissance rituals and entertainment of the Middle Ages and this Yosemite dinner event includes a seven-course banquet and a cast of over 100! During this spectacular event, The Ahwahnee Dining Room is transformed into a Renaissance recreation of an Olde English Christmas feast. The Bracebridge Dinner is probably Yosemite’s grandest tradition of all.

Hot Springs National Park
Here I am at Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas. I was in Little Rock for the Association of Partnerships for Public Lands National Conference and I decided to take a side trip down to Hot Springs. What a great place. Hot Springs is the first land area in the United States that was set aside for all future generations and eventually, it became one of our first National Parks!
There are really two different parts to Hot Springs. The one you see first is all the Natural Hot Spring Bath Houses. Beautiful old buildings that were used for therapeutic baths over a hundred years ago. Kind of like whirlpools and hot tubs we use today. The second part is all the beautiful hills surrounding the natural springs. Of course, this is where the natural hot springs actually come from, inside the mountain!
The museum was really great and I learned all about how the Bath Houses worked on the self-Guided walking tour of one of the restored buildings. I really wanted to take a bath in one of the working Bath Houses, but I got there too late and they had just closed for the evening. Next tine. I think I’ll get a massage, too!
Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site
While I was in Little Rock, I just had to visit the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site. This is where the first bussing for integration took place during the Civil Rights movement in the 1960’s. It was a very important time in our history and for those of us who were around during that time, seeing Little Rock Central High School in person can be a very powerful and emotional experience.
This is a fairly new National Park Unit but the museum was fantastic! The visitor Center is inside of a beautifully restored gas station on the corner, across the street from the High School. That’s because the High School is still a REAL High School and they don’t need visitors and tourists wandering around their campus!
This gas station is where all the reporters and news crews were based during this historic event, because this is where the only pay telephone was! Now, that wouldn’t mean much today with cell phones and Blackberrys, but back then you needed a pay phone in order to make a phone call!
We have Launched!
Finally, here’s a picture from our Launch Party. On June 23, 2006, we had one of the best parties I have ever been to. Over 100 people were there and everyone celebrated the publication of our first book Teddy’s Travels™ - America’s National Parks. We had great food and Tony dedicated the book to his parents for all their encouragement and support. We had a Teddy Bear Drive, too, and collected Teddy Bears for children in need. The party lasted well into the evening and by the time we got home, I was one exhausted bear. I had so much fun. I can’t wait until we launch the next book!
Now, don’t forget, I need your pictures and stories about your own ‘Ventures. Send us an email to cubclub@tdbpress.com with a JPEG photo and a paragraph or two and we’ll do our best to include it in the next newsletter. I can’t wait to se where you’ve been!
